Efficient warehouse handling for Lampenwelt: SuPCIS-L8 optimizes logistics processes

New logistics centre

With increasing success and the growing number of orders, the warehouse capacity at Lampenwelt was no longer sufficient at some point. So in 2011, they built a new logistics center next to the company headquarters in Schlitz. The logistics center went into operation in July 2012.

Lampenwelt GmbH & Co. KG commissioned S&P Computersysteme GmbH to install the warehouse management system for use in the new warehouse.

Lampenwelt found a reliable and experienced partner for the warehouse management software in Stuttgart-based system supplier für Logistik. The SuPCIS-L8 software from S&P controls the entire logistics processes in the new logistics center.

"We offer our customers a varied, up-to-date and unique range that is just a mouse click away 24 hours a day, 7 days a week," says Lampenwelt Managing Director Thomas Rebmann. "By increasing our storage capacity, we can keep more items in stock and therefore deliver at very short notice. This directly benefits our customers," adds Rebmann.

The camp: a shining example

In order to ensure fast and efficient picking and delivery, items are moved and stored flexibly, for example in single-item containers, in contrast to traditional storage. The individual parts are identified at all processing stages using the EAN code without additional documents. This already saves process steps during incoming goods processing. In many cases, companies want employees to select the right items from a list of open orders in the incoming goods department. Here too, Lampenwelt has opted for simple and efficient processes. This task is performed automatically by the warehouse management software after a scan.

Goods are stored in the areas using shelf trolleys in the consolidation aisle in the zone designated for this item by the warehouse management software. This is also done by scanning the EAN code and the trolley on which the goods are placed.

Storage takes place in a three-storey shelving warehouse and a pallet warehouse for large quantities and oversized items.

The warehouse management software takes the customer orders from the web store and plans them "batch by batch" on the basis of the order volumes on sorting racks before the 2-stage picking process. After the first area-related picking stage, which is route-optimized using MDE (mobile data capture), the load units are provided in front of the sorting racks. This is where order-related package distribution takes place using light displays. Once all the parts have been distributed, this is indicated to the employees on the removal side of the rack by means of lights and the employee guides the order to a free packing station.

The warehouse management software not only handles the processing of orders, customer and supplier returns, but also the exchange of customs and COD information with the shipping system.

"The e-commerce sector in particular places special demands on logistics due to particularly fast response times and sophisticated returns management. With the existing and easily adaptable modules of SuPCIS-L8, we were able to quickly offer Lampenwelt the optimum solution and a smooth move to the new warehouse. This enabled Lampenwelt to achieve an increase in productivity through greater efficiency and transparency," says Horst Reichert, Managing Director at S&P.

‍AboutLamp World‍

Over 50,000 lamps and luminaires, around 120 highly motivated and competent employees, 7,000 square meters of office and warehouse space and ten years of experience in selling lamps and luminaires. These figures speak for the success of www.lampenwelt.de, Europe's leading online retailer in this sector. It all began in 1999, when company founder and managing director Thomas Rebmann started selling lights online alongside his training as an electrical engineer. What was actually only intended as a side income developed into a great success after a certain start-up period.

In 2000, the company launched its first Internet platform with an expanded product range. Even then, the steadily growing number of buyers included both private and business customers. This was followed in 2004 by the founding of Rebmann Lichtsysteme GbR and the purchase of the domain www.lampenwelt.de. Investments in new store software, a merchandise management system and intensive work on a customer-oriented product selection led to the change of name from GbR to Lampenwelt GmbH & Co. KG. The company is based in the East Hessian castle town of Schlitz (Vogelsberg district) near Fulda.
