Joint research projects in the field of AI and data science with the Supply Chain Services working group at Fraunhofer IIS

Joint research projects: S&P and the Fraunhofer IIS Supply Chain Services Working Group decide to collaborate on research and development activities

S&P Computersysteme GmbH, a provider of intralogistics IT solutions, and the Supply Chain Services working group at the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS have agreed to collaborate on joint research and development activities in the field of artificial intelligence and data science in intralogistics. Among other things, the joint research will focus on the topic of personnel scheduling and predicting the number of warehouse employees required for a specific time horizon. The first workshops with the experts from S&P and the working group have already been successfully held.

In future, S&P and the working group will research issues relating to artificial intelligence in intralogistics. Thanks to its proximity to customers, S&P not only has insights into their practical issues, but also into the specific problems, framework conditions and data of intralogistics processes. The working group can also use its existing knowledge of the range of AI and machine learning methods to propose suitable solutions. This exchange of knowledge serves both as preparation for technology transfer and, in the long term, as an impetus for new projects.

"AI-based and application-oriented demand forecasts for logistics, retail and production are becoming increasingly relevant for companies. Together with the experts from S&P, we are now taking a practical approach to this topic and researching efficient solutions. I am already looking forward to further discussions and the plan to jointly implement our solutions in the long term," summarizes Prof. Dr. Philipp Gölzer (Business Unit Coordinator "Digitalized Production" at the Fraunhofer IIS Supply Chain Services working group).
"We are convinced that the collaboration with the experts from Fraunhofer IIS will provide new insights and impetus for future innovations in intralogistics. Our first joint workshop has already shown us the potential that needs to be uncovered in the warehouse with the help of AI and what is possible. The entire S&P team is looking forward to further research activities," says Rémy El Abd (Managing Director at S&P Computersysteme GmbH), echoing Prof. Dr. Gölzer's words.

About the Working Group for Supply Chain Services at Fraunhofer IIS
The Working Group for Supply Chain Services at Fraunhofer IIS optimizes organizations' processes, business models and strategies by combining economic methods and technological solutions with mathematical methods and models. At its locations in Nuremberg, Munich and Bamberg, the working group designs data spaces for networked overall systems and rapidly deployable IoT prototypes, develops state-of-the-art data analytics methods in concrete applications and supports the organizational and strategic realization of digital transformation. As a working group of the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS, the largest institution of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, the employees can not only draw on their own economic expertise and analytics experts, but also on the institute's comprehensive technological know-how in the field of "cognitive sensor technology" with its research into sensor technology, data transmission technology, data analysis methods and data utilization.
