Simple as the 1x1: What small changes in the warehouse do for Stihl employees.

Stihl sales headquarters in Dieburg

As part of a pilot project, Stihl decided to introduce the Mark Display wearable scanner from ProGlove and integrate it into our SuPCIS-L8 warehouse management system at the logistics center of Stihl's sales headquarters in Dieburg. The Mark Display wearable scanner from ProGlove impressed with its intuitive and efficient use in the warehouse.

Our long-standing customer Stihl develops, manufactures and distributes engine-powered equipment for forestry and agriculture, landscape maintenance, the construction industry and private garden owners. Stihl has 41 of its own sales and marketing companies, around 120 importers and more than 54,000 specialist dealers in over 160 countries. "A high level of quality and efficient order processing are our top priorities at Stihl. In order to achieve this goal together with our employees in the long term, we decided to integrate the Mark Display and the associated increased mobility and an optimization of ergonomics for our warehouse staff," says Michael Kausch, Head of Sales Logistics at Stihl.

Increasing customer satisfaction with increased mobility and better handling
At Stihl's logistics center, the small and handy scanners have been successfully integrated into the intralogistics process and the existing material flow there. In the long term, this will enable Stihl to achieve maximum efficiency in order processing in order to serve future customer requirements in the best possible way. "When connecting the Mark Display to our SuPCIS-L8 warehouse management software, we faced the challenge of displaying only the information relevant to the process. Together with Stihl, we found an optimal and standardized solution during a design workshop. As a result, we extended our warehouse management software with the ProGlove API," says Gerd Müller, Senior Project Manager at our company.

The Mark Displays are used at Stihl in the picking area for finished goods. They show the employee the compartment number, the required number of the desired item, and the serial number. The intuitive display guides employees easily and quickly through the entire picking process. The data required for the process is stored in the SuPCIS-L8 warehouse management system.

At Stihl, the intelligent glove scanners communicate via Bluetooth with a terminal mounted on the forklift. The data is updated in real time without additional input via the forklift terminal. In contrast to conventional hand-held scanners, the operator no longer has to read the feedback on the forklift terminal. With the introduction of the Mark Display, information is now shown directly on the scanner's display. This eliminates walking and orientation times to the terminal.

‍Efficientorder processing
People as a success factor in Industry 4.0: "As a provider of smart gloves, we at ProGlove believe that digital transformation can only fully unfold its effect if it takes people with it. With the Mark Display, it was also important to us to support employees in their everyday work and make them more efficient, integrated and stronger with the help of our technology," says Alexander Kapp, Senior Channel Sales Manager at ProGlove. In this context, the Mark Display - a lightweight, ergonomic glove scanner that is positioned directly on the back of the hand - replaces traditional mobile data entry (MDE) devices.

At Stihl, the ProGlove Mark Display leads to increased efficiency of the entire picking process in the finished goods area. With maximum performance at minimum weight, the wearable display scanner is intuitive to use and allows employees maximum mobility in their work in the warehouse. Once donned, employees always have the handheld scanner at hand, but still have their hands free and an overview of the data they need at all times thanks to the integrated display.

"I have been supporting Stihl for many years and have witnessed the development. I am pleased that I was also able to accompany this project and help shape the future of the digital warehouse," says Müller.
