Perfect teamwork: pick-by-light systems and SuPCIS-L8 warehouse management software (Part 2/4)

We spoke to one of our in-house experts. Ferdinand Gantert (Team Lead Product Management) has already supported several pick-by-light and put-to-light projects in combination with our warehouse management software and knows his way around.

Integrating these systems into our SuPCIS-L8 warehouse management software is not rocket science. This is where our interface comes into play, creating a reliable connection between hardware and software. Ferdinand emphasizes: "We use a standardized pick-by-light interface - the PBL connector - which enables seamless integration."

Ferdinand compares the connection of the two systems with the connection of warehouse technology, such as conveyor technology. This is because the PBL connector is technically based on our MFC (Material Flow Controller), which is used to connect to automated warehouses.

The KBS Device Manager (control software) is connected via the PBL connector and extended with project-specific components as required. This means that all relevant standard functions are included in the core. If a customer wants some crazy additional function, we can add it at any time.

Project-specific requirements? No problem.
The standard functions include: switching the lights on and off, displaying the quantity to be removed or changing the colors. However, additional logic can be added to these functions at any time. Finally, the pick-by-light system itself can also do something depending on a specific situation. One example of this is the integration of pick-by-light and put-to-light systems in a system that required special logic.

Say goodbye to malfunctions: how we maximize reliability.
Experience shows that the hardware is extremely reliable and hardly ever malfunctions, even after long periods of operation. Possible interruptions are usually due to network or server problems in the infrastructure on which the control software runs. The good news is that faults are quickly rectified so that operations can continue seamlessly. The pick-by-light and put-to-light systems and our warehouse management software ensure the current status and automatically synchronize after a failure.

Some systems have an integrated emergency mode that allows work to continue if the hardware fails. Ferdinand adds: "The great thing is that emergency mode has never been used in practice."

Optimal synergies through integration

  • Speed and precision: The combined systems and warehouse management software speed up and optimize warehouse processes.
  • Minimization of errors: Clearly formulated instructions and automated inventory management significantly reduce the error rate.
  • Flexibility and scalability: The systems and software are flexibly adaptable and easily scalable to meet individual company requirements.

The integration of the pick-by-light and put-to-light system into our warehouse management software offers numerous advantages for companies wishing to optimize their warehouse processes. The cooperation with KBS is characterized by professionalism and competence. As Ferdinand aptly adds: "KBS is extremely reliable in terms of software and hardware, and the staff are highly professional and always friendly."

Overall, it can be said that the combination of the systems and our warehouse management software is an ideal solution for increasing efficiency in warehouse operations. These not only contribute to cost savings, but also strengthen the competitiveness of companies in an increasingly globalized world. The future of warehouse management will be characterized by intelligent, networked systems that handle warehouse processes precisely, efficiently and error-free.
