In any logistics center, picking is an extremely important and essential process. For the employees in picking there are usually three work steps, unless individual processes are automated, but we are looking at the classic process:
Of course, the distances are the most important in terms of time. But these can be drastically reduced with a warehouse management system that selects intelligent picking strategies and optimizes routes.
For the other two steps, wearables computers have proven to be an excellent solution to increase efficiency and productivity. Wearables are small computer systems that employees wear on their bodies. According to Zebra Technologies, a combination of an arm terminal and a ring scanner can significantly increase employee productivity while reducing error rates even further than traditional mobile computers.
This is also obvious and understandable. Imagine that for every item that is removed, the time that the employee needs to get out his scanner and put it away again so that he has both hands free is eliminated. In practice, it is also common for the employee to scan several items first, thus acknowledging their removal, and only then remove the items. This is because it is inconvenient to get the scanner out again each time. This also makes it easier for errors to occur.
The combination of an arm terminal and a ring scanner has been used several times by our customers. We have received positive feedback throughout. These are mostly the WT6000 arm terminal and the RS5100 or RS6000 ring scanners. Our customers use these devices in combination with our warehouse management software SuPCIS-L8.
