Batch management: Know where the goods are, even if they are scattered everywhere.

Who hasn't heard the phrase: "The spice mix contains the wrong ingredient. The Mustermann company is recalling all packs because the product is unfit for consumption." or "For technical production reasons, an important active ingredient is missing from the headache tablets. The entire stock of 040324 must be withdrawn from circulation immediately." These are example sentences that immediately prompt manufacturers or suppliers to take action. Because at this moment there is only one thing that matters: all contact points must be informed of the quality defect as quickly as possible. The only question is: where do I get the information about which products are specifically affected without having to recall all deliveries? This is exactly where batch tracing comes into play.

For many companies in the manufacturing industry, batch traceability is an important part of the production process. In sectors such as the food and pharmaceutical industries, it is even stipulated by law and regulated by Regulation (EC) No. 178/2002. Apart from this, many other industries also want a transparent supply chain in order to be able to trace back completely. Our warehouse management software provides functional support for batch management.

The master data defines which products must be managed with a batch number. If the product is marked as "subject to batch management", employees are asked to enter the batch number at goods receipt. This means that it is known within the warehouse in which storage bin which batch is located. The entry can be made manually, by scan or by RFID and is then registered in the system.

Depending on the product, there are different patterns and variants of batch numbers. For example, batch 202410 is made up of the year and the calendar week. Other numbers consist of a ten or twelve-digit number sequence. The SuPCIS-L8 warehouse management system can be used to define what the batch number of an item should look like. One thing is the same in every case: stored in SuPCIS-L8, the number enables the exact allocation to the entire batch. The recorded batch number remains unchanged for all goods movements - whether internal or external delivery - and is continuously updated. Different batches are not mixed in one storage bin. For outbound deliveries, the batches recorded for each delivery can be reported back to the ERP system. In this way, the batch can be traced at any time.

By tracing batches with our warehouse management software, users have better control over the entire process, a transparent supply chain and improved quality management. In addition, in the event of a quality defect or fault, the economic damage can be kept to a minimum. This is because only the products from the faulty batch have to be recalled and not the entire production quantity.
