Keep the material flow in the warehouse running with reliable production supply and disposal!

Almost every manufacturing company knows the challenge. The requirements for controlling production are constantly increasing due to ever smaller batch quantities: above all, the logistical handling of material provision and disposal from production in the warehouse requires special and reliable handling. If there is a lack of material currently required at the machines, in the worst case scenario the entire production comes to a standstill or inefficiencies arise due to necessary rescheduling.

Successfully mastering production supply and waste disposal

For the production of semi-finished and finished goods, various (raw) materials may be required which, depending on the company and its organisation, are provided to production in different ways for further processing. In order to achieve an optimal and efficient supply of production at this point, the provision of materials for production can be supported by our flexible and powerful WMS SuPCIS-L8. The exchange of information takes place via an interface between the WMS and the ERP system and thus creates an important prerequisite: the networking of the material flows in the warehouse.

Before the production material can be processed further, it is received in goods receipt and buffered as stock in the warehouse and stored in the WMS as data. If production requires material, the provision of raw and semi-finished parts from the warehouse is triggered and the required material is quickly made available at the production workstations for further processing.

As a rule, the ERP system initiates a delivery at the WMS via a production order. The required goods are reserved by the warehouse management system SuPCIS-L8 after scheduling and sequencing, picked by the employees and made available to production. The semi-finished and finished parts coming from production are then received in the warehouse management system via an advice note. Depending on whether the goods are customer-related or a larger quantity was produced as buffer stock for the warehouse, the goods are processed further in the warehouse accordingly.

In addition, our WMS SuPCIS-L8 offers the possibility to take over smaller tasks of a Manufacturing Execution System (MES). For example, the processing times of individual orders can be stored in the system. Our WMS then schedules the exact order times on this basis and can calculate precisely at what time the respective order must be processed and ensure that the machines are supplied on time.

In many cases, it also makes sense to integrate deviating replenishment strategies or processes of material provision for production via our WMS SuPCIS-L8, e.g. provision in fixed replenishment batches by means of integrated KANBAN processes with mobile data collection. Unnecessary waiting times in production can thus be avoided in a supportive manner and the processes kept running.

Supporting the flow of materials in production with (transport) vehicles

In order to also physically support the supply of production and to optimise the internal material transports through targeted automation measures, it makes sense to supplement the logistical processes with innovative tugger train solutions coupled with a tugger train management system or automated guided vehicles (AGVs) individually adapted in SuPCIS-L8. The available SuPCIS-L8 interfaces make it possible to easily connect these systems, integrate them into the material flow and make the entire process even leaner.

The result: greater security of supply for production, faster throughput speed, increased economic efficiency and the associated competitiveness.
